Materials Needed
Pictures or real objects (scissors, ramp board, toy car, jar lid)
Chart paper
Marker
Small box
Book (to use as ramp)
Introduction
Ask:
“Have you ever pushed a heavy box?”
“Was it easy or hard?”
Say:
“Machines help us do work more easily. Today we will learn about simple machines!”

What is a Simple Machine?
A simple machine is a tool that makes work easier.
There are different types of simple machines:
Lever – Helps lift things.
Example: Scissors, seesaw
Wheel and Axle – Helps things move easily.
Example: Bicycle, car wheels
Inclined Plane – A slanted surface (ramp).
Example: Slide, ramp
Pulley – Helps lift things up using a rope.
Example: Flagpole
Guided Practice
Show different objects and ask students to identify the simple machine:
Scissors → Lever
Wheelbarrow → Wheel and axle
Slide → Inclined plane
Conclusion
Review:
Simple machines make work easier.
Examples: Lever, wheel and axle, inclined plane, pulley.
