Doors are openings in building structures which are used to block off and allow access to an enclosed space such as buikdikg room, building exit and entry.
Doors perform the following functions:
Doors provide ventilation
Doors provide security against burglary
Doors provide access to different kinds of buildings
Doors allow a measure of light into the building
TYPES OF DOORS
Generally are classified into two, these are:
Exterior doors
Interior doors
Exterior doors: These are doors positioned in the outer part of the building. Some are positioned at the entrance of the building or at the outer part of the kitchen. They are made very strong for proper protection.
Interior doors: Thsee are doors positioned in the inside of a building. Some are placed in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen etc.
There are other classifications of door types namely:
Casement doors: They have many purposes (exterior or interior) depending on the required shapes built. There are different types of casement door designs that can be made by aluminum, glass etc.
Lourvered doors: These are doors made of slats. They are used for indoor purposes only.
Revolving doors: These types of doors are usually made of glass. They are mostly used in public places such as stadium, banks, supermarkets etc.
Sliding doors: are doors that slide sideways to allow entry or exit into a place in a building. They are usually used in offices, shopping complexes etc. They serve as exterior doors.
Panel doors: The number of panels in panel doors gives it’s genuine name for example, some doors are 6-panelled doors, 8-panel led doors etc. They have both interior and exterior purposes.
ROOFS
Roofs are structures that form the upper covering over different types of building structures. Roofs can serve the following functions:
To protect and secure the entire building
To protect the occupants from any kind of harsh weather
To add beauty to the building
Some of the materials used in making different types of roofs are clay tiles, palm front, abestos sheets, plastic sheets, aluminum sheets, corrugated sheets etc.
TYPES OF ROOFS
Some of the types of roofs include the following:
Gable or collar roof: This type of roof has two slopping sides that meet at a ridge which creates end walls a triangular extension. It is the commonest type of roof in Nigeria. They are cheaper to build than more complex designs.
Butterfly roof: This type of roof is usually used for buildings with large spans. It is sometimes called the V roof.
Flat roof: These are roofs made it masonry or concrete casting. They are used in keeping out heat of the sun and are very easy to build where woods are not readily available. In this type of roof, drainages are provided through pipes made of plastics.
