Learning Activities
1. Introduction: The Heartbeat of Music
Explain that rhythm is the "pulse" or pattern of movement in music.
Practical work :Ask students to feel their own heartbeat or tap a steady beat on their desks to establish a tempo (speed).
2. Rhythmic Word Association
Use words to help students remember the duration of notes:
Quarter Note (1 beat): Say "Pear" (one clap).
Eighth Notes (2 per beat): Say "Ap-ple" (two quick claps).
Sixteenth Notes (4 per beat): Say "Wa-ter-me-lon" (four very fast claps).
3. Clapping Practice (Call and Response)
The teacher claps a pattern, and the students repeat it exactly.
Pattern A: 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 (Clap, clap, clap, clap)
Pattern B: 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥𝅮𝅘𝅥𝅮 𝅘𝅥 𝄽 (Clap, clap-clap, clap, silence)
Pattern C: 𝅗𝅥 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 (Clap-hold, clap, clap)
Assessment & Evaluation
Group Performance: Divide the class into two groups. Group A claps a steady 4-beat pulse while Group B claps a specific rhythmic pattern.
Identification: Show a card with a "Minim" (Half Note) and ask students to demonstrate the correct number of beats by clapping.
Creative Task: Have students write a 4-beat "clapping sentence" using at least one rest and perform it for a partner.
Homework :
Draw the symbols for a Crotchet, Minim, and Semibreve in your dtawimg book.
