“Which sound was low?”
Explain:
“A melody is a group of sounds. When these sounds repeat or move in a special way, we call it a melodic pattern.”
Direct Instruction
Explain melodic movement using gestures:
High sounds → hands up
Low sounds → hands down
Show three basic melodic patterns:
Up (low to high) ↑
Down (high to low) ↓
Same (same note repeated) →
Play or sing short patterns (e.g., Do–Re–Mi or Mi–Re–Do).
Students show the pattern using hand motions or arrow cards.
Guided Practice

Students:
Clap
Point arrows
Draw lines showing the melody (up/down/same)
