Materials Needed
Chart paper or board
Pictures of community members (doctor, teacher, police officer, firefighter, mayor, principal, religious leader, etc.)
Ask students:
“Who lives near you?”
“Who helps you at school or in your neighborhood?”
Explain:
A community is a group of people who live and work together.
Give examples:

Explain that community members are people who help make the community safe and happy.
Examples:
Teachers – help us learn

Explain that community leaders are people who help make decisions for the community.
Examples:
