1. Introduction
Ask students: “Can you see leaves on trees around your home or school?”
Explain:
“Leaves are important parts of plants. They help plants grow and are useful for us too.”
2. Functions of Leaves
Explain in simple words:
Make food for the plant – Leaves use sunlight, water, and air to make food.
Give oxygen – Leaves release oxygen which we need to breathe.
Give shade – Big leaves give shade to small plants and animals.
Help in transpiration – Leaves help in releasing water to keep plants healthy.
Activity: Show students leaves and ask them to identify veins, edges, and shape.
3. Uses of Leaves
Explain in simple words:
Food for humans – Spinach, lettuce, cabbage are edible leaves.
Food for animals – Goats, cows, and rabbits eat leaves.
Medicinal uses – Some leaves like tulsi and neem are used to treat minor illnesses.
Other uses – Leaves can be used for decoration, making plates (in some cultures), and wrapping food.
