Ask pupils:
“What is your name?”
“What is this?” (show a book, chair, bag)
Explain:
Common nouns are general names for people, places, animals, or things.
Presentation Part 1: Common Nouns
Give examples:
People: man, woman, boy, girl, teacher, student
Things: book, bag, chair, car, balloon
Places: city, town, village, country
Others: tree, clothes, shoes, clock, door, window
Let pupils repeat the examples.
Presentation Part 2: Countable Nouns
Explain: Countable nouns are things we can count. They have singular and plural forms.
Examples:
shirt / shirts
bag / bags
pencil / pencils
chair / chairs
balloon / balloons
toy / toys
car / cars
house / houses
Practice:
One chair → Two chairs
One book → Two books
Presentation Part 3: Uncountable Nouns
Explain: Uncountable nouns cannot be counted and do not have plural forms.
Examples:
sugar, sand, water, rice, milk, tea
air, ink, paint
love, truth, happiness, education
Special Note (Simple Explanation)
Some uncountable nouns can be measured:
sugar → cubes of sugar
rice → grains of rice
water → cups of water
tea → cups of tea
rain → drops of rain
Guided Practice
Ask pupils to identify:
Book → (Countable)
Water → (Uncountable)
Chairs → (Countable)
Milk → (Uncountable)
Activity
Game: “Count or Not Count”
Teacher says a word.
Pupils say:
“Countable” (if it can be counted)
“Uncountable” (if it cannot be counted)
Example:
Rice → Uncountable
Bag → Countable
