Ask pupils: “Have you ever bought something from a shop?”
Show different coins/notes and let pupils identify them.
Explain that money is used to buy things.
 

Lesson Development
Step 1: Understanding Money
Display coins and notes.
Teach their values (e.g., 5, 10, 20, 50, 100).
Let pupils practice identifying and matching values.
Step 2: Addition of Money 
Example:
₦10 + ₦20 = ₦30
₦50 + ₦25 = ₦75
 

Activity:
Give pupils play money.
Ask them to “buy” two items and add the prices together.
 

Step 3: Subtraction of Money
Example:
₦100 − ₦40 = ₦60
₦50 − ₦20 = ₦30
Activity:
Give a shopping scenario:
“You have ₦100 and spend ₦30. How much is left?”
