It is a flat outline of any form. When the shapes are derived from natural objects like birds, fiowers, leaves, they are referred to as naturalistic, realistic or representational shapes. They are also referred to as abstract, iregular or non- representational shapes when they have been altered by the artist. Shape has length and width only. EXAMPLES OF SHAPE Circle, square, rectangular orange, triangle, leaf, bird, etc
5. FORM
FORM: This is the visible shape of an object or artwork. From is another important element of design. It is a three-dimensional appearance of a shape. From has length, width and volume or height . There are natural forms plant, fruit, animal, etc. There are geometric forms such as cones, cubes, cuboids, pyramids and cylinders. The form of an object makes it possible to immediately recognise such objects like mountains, man, trees, buildings, etc.
6. SPACE: Space is the area within which the other elements of art (line, colour, textures, shape, fom) are brought together to create a design or work of art. without space there is no way the other elements can be brought together to form a work of art. Space has no value until it is used for any work. The area occupied by any shape in a work of art is referred to as positive space, while the unoccupied area is called the negative space. When a space has only length and width it is referred to as two-dimensional space, while a space that has length, width and depth/height is called three dimensional space.
