Fruit of the Holy Spirit

The fruit of the Holy Spirit refers to the good character traits that appear in the life of a person who is led by the Holy Spirit. When a person becomes born again and allows the Holy Spirit to control his or her life, the person begins to show godly behaviour.

In Galatians 5:22–23, the Bible says:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

These are not physical fruits like mango or orange. They are spiritual qualities that show that a person belongs to God.

1. Love – Showing care and concern for others.
2. Joy – Being happy in the Lord even in difficult times.
3. Peace – Living calmly without fighting or causing trouble.
4. Longsuffering (Patience) – Being patient and not getting angry quickly.
5. Kindness – Being helpful and caring to others.
6. Goodness – Doing what is right at all times.
7. Faithfulness – Being trustworthy and loyal.
8. Gentleness – Being humble and not harsh.
9. Self-control – Controlling anger and bad behaviour.

A child who has the fruit of the Spirit will obey parents, respect teachers, forgive friends, and avoid bad company. The fruit of the Spirit makes a Christian different from others and brings glory to God.
