Topic: Basketball
Objectives:

- Learn basic skills in basketball
- Master basic skills and techniques in basketball with examples
- Differentiate between facilities and equipment in basketball
History of Basketball:
Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith, a physical education instructor from Canada. He created the game with a soccer ball, two peach baskets, and a set of 13 rules. The first game was played with nine players on each team, and the objective was to score by throwing the ball into the opponent's peach basket.
Basic Skills in Basketball:
- Dribbling: bouncing the ball on the floor while moving.
- Shooting: throwing the ball into the opponent's basket.
- Passing: throwing the ball to a teammate.
- Rebounding: catching the ball after a shot has been taken.
Basic Skills and Techniques with Examples:
- Dribbling: Use your fingertips to control the ball, keeping your head up and eyes forward. Example: Dribble the ball through cones or around a chair.
- Shooting: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, aim for the center of the rim, and release the ball at the top of your jump. Example: Practice shooting from different spots on the court, such as the free throw line or the top of the key.
- Passing: Step forward with one foot, look at your target, and release the ball with a flick of your wrist. Example: Practice passing to a teammate while moving around the court.
- Rebounding: Position yourself near the basket, jump up, and grab the ball with both hands. Example: Practice rebounding with a teammate, taking turns shooting and rebounding.
Difference between Facilities and Equipment:
- Facilities: The basketball court, including the floor, baskets, and backboards.
- Equipment: The ball, shoes, jerseys, and any other gear used to play the game.
Class Work:
- Draw a diagram of a basketball court, labeling the different parts (e.g., free throw line, three-point line, etc.).
- Practice dribbling and shooting with a partner or in a small group.
Assignment:
- Research and write a short essay (250-300 words) on the history of basketball, including its invention, evolution, and impact on society.
- Create a diagram or illustration of a basketball player demonstrating a basic skill (e.g., dribbling, shooting, etc.).
Note: Please review the lesson notes and complete the class work and assignment to the best of your ability. If you have any questions or need further clarification, don't hesitate to ask your instructor.
