UNIQUE FRIENDS SCHOOLSLesson Plan: Subtraction of Two-Digit Numbers with Regrouping for Basic 2 Learners
Topic: Subtraction of two-digit numbers with regrouping
Counting and Writing Skills: Numbers 470-510
Subject: Mathematics
Class Group: Basic 2
Subtraction means taking away. Sometimes, we cannot subtract the bottom number from the top number in the ones place.
When this happens, we borrow 1 ten from the tens place.
Examples:
4 2
- 1 8 = 24
5 1
-2 6 =25
6 3
- 2 9 = 34
7 0
- 4 5 = 25
Word Problems
1. Tunde has 62 sweets. He gives his friends 29 sweets.
How many sweets are left?
62 − 29 = 33 sweets
2. There were 70 chairs in a hall. 48 chairs were used.
How many chairs remain?
70 − 48 = 22 chairs
Note to Learners: When subtracting two-digit numbers with regrouping, remember to break down the numbers into tens, and ones. Then, subtract each part separately, regrouping when necessary. It's like solving a puzzle! With practice, you'll become more comfortable and confident in your math skills.
