Grade 1
Objective:
Students will identify things in their environment that should be respected.
Students will understand why respecting things is important.
Materials Needed:
Flashcards or pictures of things (books, toys, clothes, school supplies, nature, pets)
Chart paper or whiteboard
Markers
Lesson Outline:
1. Warm-up
Ask: “What is your favorite toy or book?”
Discuss briefly: “How would you feel if someone broke or lost it?”
Introduce the idea that we should respect things to take care of them.
2. Introduction
Show flashcards/pictures of different things: books, toys, clothes, plants, school supplies.
Ask: “Which of these things do you use every day?”
Explain: “All these things need our respect because they help us, or they belong to someone.”
3. Main Activity
A. Discussion:
Ask students questions and guide their answers:
Question: How should we treat our books?
Answer: Keep them clean, don’t tear pages, and put them back properly.
Question: How should we treat our toys?
Answer: Play nicely, don’t break them, and share with friends.
Question: How should we treat school supplies like pencils and crayons?
Answer: Use them carefully, don’t waste them, and keep them organized.
Question: How should we treat nature (plants, trees, animals)?
Answer: Don’t harm plants or animals, keep the surroundings clean, and water plants.
Question: How should we treat clothes?
Answer: Keep them clean, fold them properly, and don’t tear them.
B. Activity:
Draw a “Respect Chart” on the board.
Make two columns: “Things” and “How to Respect.”
Ask students to name things they respect, and write their answers on the chart.
Next to each thing, write one way to respect it.
4. Wrap-Up
Summarize: “We respect things to take care of them, keep them safe, and show we are responsible.”
Ask each student to name one thing they will respect today.
