Introduction
Teacher asks pupils:
Have you ever seen someone being baptized in church?
Do you know who baptized Jesus?
Explain that today they will learn about the baptism of Jesus Christ.
Presentation
Tell the story in simple words:
One day, Jesus Christ went to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist.
John was surprised because he knew Jesus was special. But Jesus said it was the right thing to do.
John baptized Jesus in the river. When Jesus came out of the water, the heavens opened and the Spirit of God came down like a dove. A voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Activity
Pupils draw a picture of Jesus being baptized in the river.
Pupils name the people in the story: Jesus and John the Baptist.
Conclusion
Teacher explains that the baptism of Jesus Christ teaches us to obey God and do what is right.
