BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

STEP 2: BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
Business opportunity means the identification of possible goods and services within an environment that might become a business in which an entrepreneur can invest money for a profit.
HOW TO IDENTIFY BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
Business opportunities start with a business idea. Looking around the environment in which he/she lives, an entrepreneur must look for an innovative idea that can be transformed into a business opportunity.
HOW TO GENERATE BUSINESS IDEAS
To effectively generate business idea, entrepreneurs must look around their environment to identify business ideas. This is done by always identifying the needs and problems of the immediate community and brainstorm on how to solve these needs.
We can therefore see business ideas as:
i. dreams about creative solutions to the community’s needs.
ii. dreams of creative solutions to a community’s problems.
iii. creative ways of improving on what has already been done.
iv. creative ways of meeting the expectations and dreams of community members for a better life.
STEP 3: BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES LOCALLY
The community in which we live provides a lot of business opportunities for us. There are a lot of local business opportunities in the following areas:
a. Selling things that you grow such as vegetable etc.
b. Selling things that you breed such as chicken and goats
c. Selling things that you caught such as fish and bush meat.
d. Selling things that you have made such as accessories, dresses etc.
e. Selling things that you have bought such as biscuits, sweet etc.
STEP 4: BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY
The following are business opportunities at both the national and international levels. They are businesses that can be done on a large scale within the country and at the international level.
BUSINESS SECTOR TYPES OF BUSINESS
1. Agriculture Farming and sale of farm products
2. Fishing Commercial fishing, fish processing
3. Food Manufacturing/making and selling of food
4. Manufacturing Making products from raw materials such as dresses, jewellery,
arts and craft etc
5. Tourism Providing entertainment for tourist
6. Hospitality Providing food and accommodation services
7. Transportation Transporting people or goods from one place to another.
8. Construction Building and constructing roads, houses etc.
9. Health Establishing hospitals, pharmaceutical shops, sports services
10. Services Services that touch the lives of people everyday e.g cleaning,
repairs, hairdressing etc.
