LESSON CONTENT
STEP 1: CONSUMER RIGHT
Consumer rights are rights aimed at protecting consumer when they buy goods or are rendered services.
CONSUMER RIGHTS
The following are the rights the consumer enjoys and they are usually referred to as the eight universal consumer rights.
1. Right to be informed
2. Right to safety
3. Right to redress
4. Right to choose
5. Right to get value for money
6. Right to good things of life
7. Right to be heard
8. Right to healthy environment
STEP 2: MEANING OF CONSUMERS RESPONSIBILITY
Consumer responsibility refers to the role a consumer plays in the way that goods or services are provided and made available to the public.
STEP 3: RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CONSUMER
1. It is a duty of consumers to educate themselves about their right.
2. It is the responsibility of the consumer to read and follow the instructions or warnings regarding a product before purchase.
3. It is the responsibility of the consumer to be alert to changes in the price and quality of goods.
4. It is the responsibility of the consumer to notice any breach in the product.
5. It is the responsibility of the consumer to come together to organize and to have the strength to influence and promote their mutual interest.
6. It is the responsibility of the consumer to be aware of his/her own consumption patterns as they affect the affect the effectiveness of a product.
EVALUATION: The teacher evaluates the lesson by asking the students the following questions.
ASSIGNMENT
Write a letter of complaint to the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) about your dissatisfaction with one of products of a company pointing out which of your rights that have been violated.
