Sharon Stars International SchoolTie-dye is a resist dyeing technique used to create unique, patterned designs on fabric. Here's how it works:
METHOD OF TYE ANS DYE
1. Fold, twist, clamping or bind: Fabric is folded, twisted, or bound with thread or rubber bands to create resistance areas.
2. Dye application: Dye is applied to the fabric, but the bound areas resist the color.
3. Unique patterns: When the bindings are removed, the resisted areas reveal distinctive patterns, such as spirals, stripes, or dots.
MATERIALS AND TOOLS FOR TYE AND DYE
MATERIALS
1. Fabric: Natural fibers like cotton, linen, or silk work best.
2. Dye: Procion MX dye or fiber-reactive dye is commonly used.
3. Rubber band: For binding and resisting areas of the fabric.
4. String or threa: For tying and creating patterns.
5. Gloves: Protect your hands from stains and dye.
6. Bucket or container: For mixing and soaking the dye.
7. *Measuring cups and spoons*: For measuring dye and other chemicals.
Tools:
1. spoon: For applying and spreading the dye.
2. Protective coverings: For protecting work surfaces from stains.
3. Running water: For rinsing and washing the fabric.
4. Soda ash: A fixative that helps the dye bond with the fabric.
5. Salt or vinegar: Optional additives to control dye absorption.
Preparing A Dye Bath:
Steps:
1. Mix soda ash: Dissolve soda ash in warm water according to the instructions.
2. Soak fabric: Submerge the folded and bound fabric in the soda ash mixture.
3. Mix dye: Combine dye powder or liquid with water, following the instructions.
4. Create dye bath: Add the dye mixture to the soda ash mixture or use it separately.
5. Submerge fabric: Gently submerge the fabric into the dye bath.
6. Wait: Let the fabric sit in the dye bath for the recommended time.
7. Rinse and wash : Rinse the fabric gently and wash it in cold water.
