Jesus then cried with a loud voice "Eloi Eloi lama sabac thani'? which means " My God, My God, why hast that forsaken me?. Some of the people thought he was calling on Elijah to come and save him. Immediately, Jesus died on the cross, the curtain of the temple was turn into two. There was great earthquake which shook the whole place and some of the tomb opened and the dead came back to life, and after resurrection, went to the town and appeared to many people. When the soldiers saw all this they confessed that Jesus was truly the son of God. The women disciples of Jesus, including Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of the sons of Zebedee, Mary the mother of James and Joseph were at the place of the crucifixion. They sympathized with Jesus and wailed when Jesus died on the cross.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF JESUS DEATH
The death of Jesus on the cross is important for our salvation. * Firstly, Jesus by his death, atoned for our sins and save us from the terrible consequences of sin * Secondly, God used the blood of Jesus to establish a new covenant; so that after forgiveness of our sins, we might have spiritual will to overcome temptation and also do what we cannot do by our will.
THE BURIAL OF JESUS
In the evening, Joseph of Arimanthae, a respected member of the council, who was a friend of Jesus went to pilate and asked for the body of Jesus to go and bury it. He took Jesus body from the cross and wrapped him inn a linen shroud. He then laid the body in his own rock tomb which he made for himself and secured the entrance of the tomb with a big tomb. The women disciples were there to see where Jesus was buried.
