Civic competence refers to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for individuals to participate effectively in the democratic life of their society. To be a responsible Nigerian citizen, one must master three core skills: decision-making, teamwork, and critical thinking.

  5. Take action and evaluate the result.

2. Teamwork

Teamwork is the collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common goal or complete a task effectively.

  • Communication: Sharing ideas clearly.
  • Tolerance: Respecting the views and backgrounds of others.

3. Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information objectively and make a reasoned judgment. It involves questioning assumptions rather than accepting things at face value.

• How to Think Critically:
  • Ask questions (Who? What? Where? Why?).
  • Distinguish between facts and opinions.
  • Look for evidence before believing news or rumors.
• Importance: It protects citizens from manipulation, fake news, and propaganda, allowing them to make informed political and social choices.
