GLORIOUS FIRST TREASURES ACADEMYCLASS: J.S.S. 1 (Grade 7) TOPIC: COMPREHENSIVE STUDY NOTE
In spoken English, we do not usually pause between every single word. Instead, words often "flow" or "link" together. This is called Connected Speech. Understanding this helps you sound more natural and understand native speakers better.
When a word ends in a consonant sound and the next word starts with a vowel sound, we push the consonant to the next word.
Examples from your syllabus:
Imagine a train. Each carriage is a word. The "links" between the carriages are the sounds that join them together.
[Bread] 🔗 [and] 🔗 [butter] Sounds like: Bre-dan-butter
These are questions that require a simple "Yes" or "No" answer. They usually begin with auxiliary verbs like Is, Are, Do, Does, Can, Will, or Have.
A Tag Question is a small question added to the end of a statement. We use them to check if something is true or to ask for agreement.
The Golden Rules of Tag Questions:
| Feature | Polar Question | Tag Question |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Starts with a Verb | Statement + Short Question |
| Example | Can you swim? | You can swim, can't you? |
| Purpose | To get information | To confirm information |

An Expository Essay is a piece of writing that explains, informs, or describes a process. It must be clear, factual, and written in a logical order.
"To begin the process, first, find a suitable location with enough sunlight. Next, use a shovel to dig a hole that is deep enough for the roots. After placing the seedling gently into the hole, fill the space with a mixture of soil and manure. Finally, water the plant immediately to help the roots settle."
