Reward for Being Honest
Since every action in life has rewards, honesty also has rewards which are;
- Trust: Honesty and truthfulness earn people’s trust.
- Respect: People naturally show respect to someone who is known for always speaking the truth. In fact, some persons who lie repeatedly will even be afraid of a person that is known for always telling the truth.
- Good reputation: Being known everyone, whether close or not, as an honest person gives an individual a good name which can bring many unexpected favours.
- Leadership: The combination of trust, respect and good reputation will naturally put one in a leadership position anytime there is a leadership vacancy.
- Promotion: Honesty in the work place will lead to being given higher responsibilities and better pay.
Consequences of not Being Truthful
Refusing to live honestly or consistently tell the truth also has its consequences. Some of them are;
- Being seen as untrustworthy: Nobody wants to put their confidence on someone who is known for lying always.
- Not being respected: Consistently lying will make people not to give you any sign or form of respect.
- Bad reputation: Lying leads to being known far and wide as a bad person.
- Denial of leadership positions and opportunities: Liars are always not given the opportunity to lead others.
- Lack of promotion at work: A known liar is seen as undependable so the person will not get promoted at work.
Meaning of Fair Play
Fair play is a deliberate way of dealing with a group or class of people where everyone is given equal opportunity. It means all the persons involved a in particular or similar situation, sport or any competition are treated in the same manner, given the same set of tools, equipment or challenge.
In practicing fair play, the guiding concept is equity. Equity refers to providing a level playground for all concerned. Nobody is given advantage over the others.
