1. Meaning of Repentance
Repentance is a radical change of mind and heart. It involves feeling deep regret or sorrow for bad deeds and completely turning away from sin to face God.
2. The Wickedness of Nineveh
Nineveh was the capital city of ancient Assyria.
The city was populated by people who committed extremely sinful, cruel, and wicked acts which displeased God.
Because of their massive sins, God decided to destroy the entire city unless they changed.

3. Jonah’s Message and Nineveh's Response
God commanded Prophet Jonah to go to Nineveh and warn them that the city would be overthrown in forty (40) days.
When the people heard Jonah's brief but powerful message, they believed God instantly.
The King's Decree: The King of Nineveh rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. He ordered a total fast where neither human nor animal was allowed to eat food or drink water.
Every citizen was ordered to cry out to God and turn away from their violence and evil behaviors.
4. God’s Mercy
God saw their genuine actions and how they turned away from their bad ways.
Because God is merciful, compassionate, and slow to anger, He forgave them and canceled the planned destruction.
Moral Lessons for Students
No one is beyond God's forgiveness: No matter how bad a person has been, God is always willing to forgive if they truly repent.
True repentance requires action: Saying "sorry" is not enough; a person must change their habits and stop doing evil things.
Humility matters: Just like the King of Nineveh, leaders and children must humble themselves before God when they make mistakes.
Evaluation and Class Activities
1. Define the word Repentance in your own words.
2. How many days did Jonah say Nineveh had left before destruction?
3. Describe three things the King and people of Nineveh did to show they were truly sorry.
